NAPLES, Fla., August 7, 2019 - The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group, a volunteer organization dedicated to the advancement of female leadership in radio, and Nielsen Music, the industry’s most trusted source for insights into how fans interact with music across physical and digital platforms and services, are now accepting applications for the 3rd Annual MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program. The program is a collaborative effort that creates greater opportunities for women across the country who are interested in management positions in music broadcast programming. This year’s application window, which opens today, will close Wednesday, August 21st, 2019.
The one year mentorship program matches a female programming candidate with key mentors from throughout the broadcast industry, including the MIW Radio Group and Nielsen Music. The MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program is designed to sharpen the mentee’s programming and professional skills and further her music programming career. The program includes a scholarship to attend the 2019 Radio Show.
The mentorship is available to one female program director, assistant program director, and/or music director from any music format. Interested candidates may visit www.RadioMIW.com for details and an application form. The winner will be announced at the 2019 Radio Show produced by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) to be held September 24-26 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas.
“At Nielsen, we place great emphasis on driving diversity in the workplace,” said Haley Jones, Director of Radio at Nielsen. “In our third year as the co-sponsor of the Annual MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program, we remain inspired by the number of young professionals looking to advance their careers. We are confident that this mentor program will continue to have a lifelong impact on the winners.”
“Thank you to Nielsen Music! Their continued support of women in programming, through this mentorship program, is appreciated by all MIWs and is truly appreciated across the industry. Together, we are helping women succeed, while creating stronger talent for radio. Everybody benefits!,” said Ruth Presslaff, Founder and President of Presslaff Interactive Revenue and MIW Group executive committee member spearheading the MIW’s project.
The MIW Group’s annual MIW Gender Analysis Report has tracked the growth of women in radio management since 2004. Although slight increases in female general managers and sales managers have been reported, the percentage of women in programming has remained essentially flat for the past twelve years.
The MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program was created in 2017 to address this concern and supplements the ongoing MIW Group Mildred Carter Mentoring Program, which offers women in all divisions of radio advice for broadcasting management, education and coveted access to leaders in radio broadcasting at the very highest level.
