Kim Guthrie holds a BA degree in Journalism from Iowa State University. After 5 years as a TV news reporter/anchor, Guthrie worked as an account executive at WLXR FM in LaCrosse, WI, then at WLUM in Milwaukee as AE, LSM, and GSM – working for Green Bay Packer legend Willie Davis. She later launched the first sales duopoly for Heritage Media in Milwaukee in 1993 – with WMYX, WEZW and WEMP.

Guthrie worked for Hubbard Broadcasting as General Sales Manager for KSTP-FM/KS95 in Minneapolis from 1995-1998, before moving to New York where she became General Manager of Cox Radio’s Long Island cluster. While there, Guthrie completely rebuilt WBAB and WBLI, assembling a new management team which overhauled both stations’ on-air line-ups, and tripled the property’s cashflow.

A major turning point for Guthrie and her Long Island, NY stations occurred with the World Trade Center attacks. The tragedy – just 30 miles from her Long Island studios – prompted Guthrie to pre-empt regular programming for 6 days on her 2 music stations. She and her staff converted the stations to a commercial-free, news/talk format for 6 days, helping Long Islanders grieve and deal with the tragedy. The stations raised $1.4 million in cash for the victims’ families and sent 50 semi-trailers of rescue supplies directly to Ground Zero. The decision to scrap the regular music format and commit 100% of the stations’ efforts to help the Long Island community propelled both stations to record ratings levels. For the first time in 14 years, WBLI and WBAB toppled the perennial Long Island radio leader in virtually every major demographic in the Fall 2001Arbitron, a position they held for the next 5 ratings books. Both stations have since received many nominations for the prestigious NAB Marconi Awards. WBAB and WBLI have earned multiple New York Air Awards, AWRT Gracie Awards, and multiple nominations and awards by the industry for programming excellence and outstanding community service.

Cox Radio promoted Kim in 2001, making her Regional Vice President. She now oversees 16 radio stations for Cox in Houston, TX; Long Island, NY; Greenville, SC; Stamford/Norwalk, CT; Bridgeport, CT; and New Haven, CT. She also holds the title of Market Manager of Cox Radio—Connecticut, and is the point person for Cox Radio for all national business.

Guthrie was named “Woman of Distinction” in 2002 by the March of Dimes, was a Long Island Business News honoree for “40 Under 40” in 2001 and was named “Humanitarian of the Year” in 2000 by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She held board member positions with the New York Association of Radio Stations (NYMRAD), the Red Cross and the Promote Long Island organization. She has been voted one of the top 20 Most Influential Women in Radio for the past 6 years by Radio Ink Magazine, and was named one of the 10 Best General Managers In Radio in 2002. In 2003 and 2004, Guthrie was voted one of the 10 Best Regional/Corporate Managers in Radio. She also helps teach broadcast communications courses at Fairfield University, SUNY Stonybrook and is a frequent public speaker to area schools.

Her interests include reading, downhill skiing, cooking, boating, playing the piano and collecting radios. Kim and husband Todd are trailblazers in the parenting arena – as Todd, a former radio Program Director, has been a full-time father since the birth of their first daughter Madeline 18 years ago. Madeline was later joined by 2 sisters: Bonnie, now 15, and Greta, now 12.
