Claudia
Puig is a recognized national broadcast executive with
over twenty years experience in the US Hispanic media
market. Exiled from Cuba in 1961, Puig is considered
one of the top professionals in her field, with a solid
record of sales achievements and remarkable accomplishments
in the radio industry.
During her career, Puig has established herself as one
of Miami’s premier broadcast executives. Her work
experience begins with her initial advertising and sales
position at the BellSouth Yellow Pages. At Bellsouth,
Claudia achieved the highly selective Elite Club status,
marking her one of the Company’s top performers
within its largest and most profitable division. In
her 15 years of radio management experience she has
succeeded in positions with increasing levels of responsibility
with Spanish Broadcasting System, Spanish Radio Network,
Tichenor Media, Heftel Broadcasting and presently HBC.
Puig
assumed her current position at Hispanic Broadcasting
Corporation in April of 1997. Her current responsibilities
as Senior Vice President and General Manager include
the overall operational, financial, sales, programming
and business development strategy for the NYSE listed
company’s four broadcast properties in the Miami
Market. During her tenure, HBC’s FM stations in
Miami have consistently ranked among the top three stations
in the market while WAQI-AM and WQBA-AM rank number
one and two among the AM stations. HBC Miami with WAMR
has led the market in rates, ratings and revenues for
the past six years. The billings of WAMR 107.5FM, WRTO
98.3FM, WAQI 710AM, and WQBA 1140AM represented more
than 60% of the Miami Hispanic Radio market with one
of them leading the market in terms of top ratings,
rates and revenues. Puig has managed to out-sell her
competition every year.
Prior
to her current position, Puig was Vice President and
General Manager of Spanish Broadcasting Systems where
she directed all aspects of sales, marketing, promotions
and business development departments at local and national
levels for WCMQ AM and FM in Miami. While at SBS, Puig
held many sales and managerial positions including,
General Manger (1994-1996), VP of Sales Networks/ Special
Projects (1987-1989) and Account Sales Representative
(1984-1986). In every position, Puig exceeded all assigned
sales objectives. She was recently selected as the “2003
General Manager of the Year” among all Hispanic
Broadcasting Corporation’s GMs in the United States
and Puerto Rico.
Her
leadership skills are manifested through her hands on
approach and strong drive for success which motivates
her staff and all those around her to maximum achievement
of excellence in customer service. Her personal commitment
extends to her many community service activities with
Miami charitable and civic groups. Ms. Puig serves on
the Board of Directors of the United Way of Miami-Dade,
the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the American Cancer Society,
Cuban American National Council, the Greater Miami Chamber
of Commerce, Orange Bowl Committee and the Florida Association
of Broadcasters. She was also appointed by Governor
Jeb Bush to serve on the nine-member Community Improvement
Authority to deal with the issues of Major League Baseball
related to the Miami community.
This
year, Puig was appointed by the City of Miami Mayor
Manny Diaz, to the Arts and Entertainment Council. Puig
was also inducted into the Hall of Fame of Miami Dade
Community College and was appointed to Florida International
University’s Board of Trustees. She was recently
selected as one of the “50 Most Influential Women
in Radio” by Radio Ink Magazine (June 2003).
